Was asked today what brand of paper shredder I'd recommend.

Now I usually have an opinion on all things that plug in, and somehow I don't on this...

So I'd recommend just buying something that doesn't hiccup on paperclips, staples or credit cards and can take 15 pages at a time (or more).  That way you don't have to rip documents apart to shred them.  Anything less is a waste of your money because it's a pain to use.  I would also recommend something that cross shreds because it's more difficult to piece together (if you are a paranoid freak like me).

The shredders that shred CD's can be really handy as well for destroying old backups.

Also think about how much shredding you do.  If it's a lot look for one that has a large hopper for trash.  The one I have at our office (purchased at Sam's Club so nothing too expensive) has a door on the front and a standard sized office trash can inside of it so you can use office trash bags to collect the waste.  Very handy.  It's also on wheels.  I believe it's a Fellowes brand.
