Mortgage bond prices opened the week in positive territory and then gave back the gains following mixed data releases. Trading was up and down throughout the week but generally within a narrow range. Mortgage bond prices traded within a narrow range last week leaving mortgage interest rates near unchanged. Trading was relatively quiet throughout most of the week with some up and down movements Friday following consumer price index and consumer sentiment data. Core CPI rose 0.2%, as expected. Consumer sentiment indicated inflation expectations are moderating which bodes well for bonds. [ More ]

Mortgage bond prices rose last week applying downward pressure to mortgage interest rates. Trading was quiet with few active participants ahead of the extended holiday weekend. The employment report released last Friday was very close to forecasts by Wall Street economists and had little effect on trade. [ More ]

Mortgage bond prices remained unchanged last week holding mortgage interest rates steady. Both new home sales and durable good data released last Thursday indicated the economy was cooling. Traders remain hopeful the Federal Reserve may cease raising interest rates as economic activity moderates. [ More ]

Mortgage bond prices rose last week applying downward pressure on mortgage interest rates. Mortgages were helped by friendly inflation data. The core consumer and producer price indices both came in weaker than expected helping mortgage bonds rally early in the week. Trading was relatively quiet the latter portion of the week however mortgage rates did give back some of the earlier improvements following stronger than expected manufacturing data from the Philadelphia Fed. Mortgage bond prices remained nearly unchanged most of last week holding mortgage interest rates steady. However a much need bond friendly employment report released last Friday morning helped mortgage bond prices to finish the week in positive territory pushing mortgage interest rates lower. [ More ]
