 Profile of O'Fallon
by Sid Cameron, (Data by: U.S. Census Bureau, Census 2000)

Although O'Fallon was originally established in 1856 as nothing more than a railroad stop in rural St. Charles County, over the past 20 years it has transformed itself from a sleepy little bedroom community into one of the largest outer ring suburban cities in the St. Louis area. The population of O'Fallon rose from 18,698 in 1990 to 46,169 in 2000. Today the city is recognized as the 7th largest city in Missouri with an estimated 2007 population of roughly 75,000 people.

But population growth isn't the only thing O'Fallon has going for it. Money Magazine has twice selected O'Fallon as one of the "Best 100 Places to Live" (2006 and 2008). In doing so, Money noted the city's low crime rate and high job growth as reasons for its inclusion on their list. In 2009, O'Fallon added to it's awards when Relocate-America.com also named the city as a Top 100 City.

Two interstate highways service O'Fallon. The east/west running I-70 connects the city with the North County and West County regions of St Louis County as well as Lambert International Airport and the City of St. Louis. O'Fallon is roughly 20 miles west of Lambert Airport and 35 mile west of downtown St. Louis. On the southern tip of O'Fallon is the east/west combined Highways 40 and 61 which turns into Interstate 64 just southeast of O'Fallon. This road actually runs northwest/southeast while in St. Charles County. It connects O'Fallon to Chesterfield in West St. Louis County as well as the business district of Clayton, MO and downtown St. Louis City.

Unlike a lot of suburban cities that exist solely as commuter towns, O'Fallon features a number of large employers such as CitiMortgage, MasterCard, True Manufacturing and MEMC Electronics. The city also offers a wide variety of shopping and dining experiences with strip centers located around I-70 and Highway K and additional shopping and dining around Main Street and the WingHaven area.

To further your education, O'Fallon offers five different higher education options. St. Charles Community College offering associate degrees in a variety of academic programs as well as continuing education. Webster University, Maryville University and Lindenwood University all have O'Fallon campuses that offer undergraduate and some graduate programs locally. Vatterott College, a trade and technical school also offers an O'Fallon campus.

You'll also find more than 450 acres of parks located throughout the City of O'Fallon including O'Fallon Sports Park, a 12-field soccer complex that includes the RSC Renaud Spirit Center indoor recreation facility, Civic Park which includes an outdoor aquatic center as well as the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex and T.R. Hughes Ballpark which is home to the River City Rascals minor league baseball team.
