 Things Buyers Should NOT Do
By: Darin "Sid" Cameron, CRS

Here's another good article to hop into the Wayback Machine and revisit.

In 2005 I wrote a blog on Buyer Etiquette discussing things buyers should NOT do when looking at homes.

Skip down to the 4th or 5th paragraph to get to the guts of the story.

This addresses common things buyers frequently do (but probably shouldn't) like...

1) Walking up to a home that's for sale and looking in the window.

What if there are children home alone and they call the police?

What if someone inside is getting dressed?

What if the home owner is a gun toting nut job who, at that moment, is rip roaring drunk?

2) Opening gates and walking into back yards.

What if the owner's guard dogs don't quite understand why you're there?

Bottom line, it's trespassing.  Some sellers will forgive you because they want to sell their home.  But that doesn't mean you won't get bit by a dog or questioned by the police.

The reason why a seller hires a real estate agent is to manage the process of the sale- and that includes putting a process in place for buyers to see the property.  This process is to protect the safety of the seller's family and protect buyers from pets or other concerns.
