Day in the Life of the Marketing Guy
By: Darin "Sid" Cameron, CRS
Sat, May 20th, 2006 6:40 am

Had an agent in the office ask me what I do all day.  Most of the agents in our office are "one man shows" so if you're not running around like a chicken with your head cut off they just assume you're sitting at home watching TV.  NOT!

Since it's now 6:30am and I still haven't gone to bed yet, I don't suspect I'm going to get a quality blog out today!

However I just emailed out an update to my team letting them know where I was with marketing and other various projects (so they're not calling in an hour when I'm trying to sleep).  Since that email is already written I just thought it might be interesting for the rest of you to see "a day in the life" of someone who manages the marketing for a growing real estate team...

Hi All!

I just completed my broker's class on Wednesday and except for the day I have to take my test I'm now free to catch up on other stuff.

Since class ended, my priority has been to get the listings caught up on marketing.  I spent the day working on the basics for the new listings and will be working over the “vacation” on internet related items.  All active listings should have a brochure box flyer and interior signage (except for that new condo).

I have also created four pieces of Buyers Marketing materials that are to go into each listing along with three tier acrylic literature holders.  They are already in Indiana, Shenandoah, Wyoming (from the open houses two weeks ago), and some of the newest listings.  They still need to be delivered to Amherst, Osceola and a few of the older listings.  To go with this, I have purchased clipboards with chained pens for the sign in sheets which need to find their way into each listing.  In the next few days I will schedule a day to visit each listing to determine what is still needed on site.

I got the CD Printer to work again.  Just finished an all nighter and got Wyoming reprinted as well as Buckpasser and Osceola made.  I printed 10 each.  I’m starting with the oldest listings first.

We will begin placing in each listing a second clipboard for a Scouting Report sign up sheet and an acrylic sign stand advertising the Scouting Report.  These will be added to each listing when the sign stands come in.

I have also created a “Sign Generator Database” that should make creating interior signs easier and faster (as well as allow us to print on site).

Spoke to the phone company, our new 314 phone number has been ordered but I have not yet had a number assigned to us.  As soon as we do I will be placing an order for business cards, lawn signs, etc.

I now have ACT! (the Contact Management Software that will replace Top Producer) purchased as well as the Server it will be installed on.  This will be a networkable solution that will allow us to share a calendar yet still use Outlook for e-mail (yeah) unlike what we have now.  Not sure when I'll have it up and running, however.

Before we start using it I have already determined we will need to order and install more memory in our laptops.

Earlier today I sent a sample of the team postcards for May.  They were just printed and are now ready to stamp and label.  I am currently planning our next newsletter for June, but that may change based on my time to get it created.
