With summer coming up, here's a "Things to Do" post that's a little different and a good way to get the kids out of the house for the day!

From the Missouri Dept of Natural Resources...

Have you ever wanted to learn fishing strategies, go canoeing or create great meals outdoors? If you answered yes, then WOW St. Louis is for you. Enjoy a day filled with outdoor activities at the 2006 WOW St. Louis event to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Forest Park on Saturday, June 10.

This event will offer classes in a variety of outdoor skills including archery, canoeing, fishing, woodworking, orienteering, rock climbing, bicycling, outdoor cooking and more. WOW St. Louis is designed to teach participants how to enjoy a wide range of outdoor recreation activities while practicing personal safety and outdoor responsibility. Classes are open to anyone age nine or above. The cost to attend is $10 per person or $20 per family. Financial assistance is also available. Advance registration is required and the deadline to register is May 26. A day camp for ages four to eight will be provided to families participating in WOW by the Girl Scouts of Greater St. Louis District 3.

For those interested in extending their outdoor experience, camping will be available in Forest Park on Friday night, June 9. Evening campfire activities will include roasting marshmallows, storytelling by Bobby Norfolk and stargazing. Tents will be available to those who don't have one on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information or to request a registration packet, contact the Missouri Department of Natural Resources by calling (314) 340-5794 or toll free 1-800-334-6946 (voice) or 1-800-379-2419 (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf) or sending an e-mail to Registration information and forms are also available on the Web at
